Breve Descrição | Brief Description:
This project focus on the study of rare, endemic Limonium spp., well-known halophytes widespread in Portugal coasts, with environmental, ornamental, and pharmacy interests.
The goals of this project are to elucidate taxonomic, population genetic diversity and reproduction modes of taxonomically complex groups (“complexes”): Limonium ovalifolium and Limonium binervosum complexes, and Limonium vulgare and related taxa. Through a multidisciplinary approach using tools from numerical taxonomy, cytology, molecular biology and reproduction analysis, we gained deeper insights into these complexes to design better conservation strategies. This study offer a basis for ongoing and future research projects dealing with the expression of apomixis as well as genome evolution in Limonium.
